The Youth Council of the South Central Idaho Works! Board put
together a resource guide for youth called “Youth Yellow Pages”.
It contains contact numbers and addresses, as well as, information about issues
that youth deal with, including:
• Abuse,
• Use of alcohol and illegal substances,
• Health issues,
• Counseling,
• Depression,
• Employment,
• Education,
• Legal actions,
• Life skills, and
• Study skills.
The Council felt that to be used, it needed to be convenient, and so, it is
printed in a size that fits into the back pocket of a pair of jeans, or a purse,
or a backpack and is about 35 pages in length.
The first edition of 18,000 copies in 2001 were printed and distributed throughout the eight county area of south central Idaho. They were distributed throughout the 21 school districts to the middle schools, high schools, and alternative schools, and other youth service organizations/agencies such as, South Central District Health, the GED programs, Job Service offices, juvenile probation offices, safe houses, Health & Welfare, the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, College of Southern Idaho, and Magic Valley Youth & Adult Services.
While developed with older youth in mind, we have had calls also wanting them for sixth graders, parent’s groups and parenting classes, teacher resource guides, for counselors and other staff, and even physicians offices. We have also had requests for them in Spanish.
In 2003, the second edition was printed and distributed. This printing was for 30,000 – 25,000 English and 5,000 Spanish. Contributors to this include: SCIW! Youth Council, Twin Falls Optimist, Twin Falls Kiwanis, Twin Falls Lion’s Club, All-Rite Group, Inc., Con Agra Foods, Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, Donnelley Sports, Regional Substance Abuse Authority (RSAS), and the Office of the Governor-Generation of the Child Initiative
